The Art of Defense: POWERHOUSE
- Dwight Howard blocks Lights Out during PHL Summer League
Defense. The one word that is intimidating in the game of basketball. Defense is the one skill than can truly set you apart as a great player. There's nothing like the feeling of shutting down a good offensive player. Quoted from 7 Time World Champion Coach Pat Riley, "Defense Wins Championships". There are few players who have the heart, passion and intensity to become great defenders. In PHL, there is one man who possess all 3 of those unique features, POWERHOUSE. Dwight "POWERHOUSE" Howard is a special talent. Sure he loves to score 30 points on his opponents and grab down 20 rebounds but he feasts on being a lock down defender. He recently became the first player in the PHL Season to get a triple double, doing so by scoring 27 Points, Grabbing 17 Rebounds and Blocking 10 shots. His ability to block shots and lock down his opponents is slim to none. He held the opposing teams 2 centers to a combined 24 points. An beast when it comes to help defense, he has a knack for swatting shots left and right. He can play on ball defense, post defense or just come over for the block. So versatile he is. Powerhouse is a defensive wizard, and a menace everywhere on the court. Not only his athleticism helps him get blocks but his timing, instincts and he does his homework so he knows his opponents tendencies. His coach Larry Black says he's the best defender he has ever seen, mentioning and comparing his name to "The Machine", "The Hulk", "Sargent Swat" and "Show Stoppa". POWERHOUSE is becoming an elite defender in the league and the premier defensive big man in all of PHL. He is well on his way to becoming the first PHL Defensive player of the year. "PHL seriously needs to look out for this guy, especially with the newly signed Hulk" says Stuart Scott on ESPN's sportscenter. POWERHOUSE looks like the next great big man.
