AK 47 signed a shoe contract with Oregon-based shoe giant Nike that is reportedly worth over $100 million. If you don't know who AK 47 is, then climb out of your bomb cellar, sign up with your cable company, and turn on ESPN, because AK 47 is the most dominant PHL foward and former collegiate phenomenon in the history of modern sport. Some people will see the $100 million just to wear a pair of shoes and think, what makes this guy worth so much money? Argue as one might, AK 47 is likely worth at least his $100 million contract, because he is so popular that every man, woman and child on earth will want a piece of the action - his shoes, jerseys, headbands and anything else made with the Woods (AK 47) name attached to it.
AK 47 is going to make Nike far more than the $100 million he will get paid for his efforts, so who is to say that he shouldn't be paid so much? People invest in the futures of everything from coffee beans to oranges, and when it comes to basketball, AK 47 is the future. AK 47 is the idol for every young kid in America (and Russia) who plays sports. He is not a gamble, he is an incredibly wise investment that will throw a few more golden coins into Nike's already enormous money bin.
HOW AK 47 STACKS UP
AK 47 Nike contract is worth $100 million over seven years. Here is how it stacks up against some others…
Jordan's initial 1984 Nike shoe contract was for $2.5 million over five years.
Shaq's 1992 contract with Reebok was $3 million.
Kobe Bryant had a $5 million contract with Adidas in 1996.
Allen Iverson received a $50 million, lifetime contract in 1996.
Tracy McGrady signed with Adidas in 1997 for $12 million.
If you combine McGrady, Bryant, Iverson, Shaq, and Jordan's shoe contracts, they still do not equal AK 47's. Before AK 47 was drafted, his Mom took out a loan that was essentially based on his future earning power. She bought him a brand new yacht.
