The New York Times Los Angeles- T.J. “The Real Deal” Smith, with a name like that and the team he is on will make a serious effect on the court. Reebok took the initiative to sign this young star, in the third round, because of his success in college at the University of Texas. His ability to get open and play defense are great assets for any team considering both him and his former college teammate, Chris “Spyder” Jones, led the University of Texas to the NCAA playoffs unfortunately in the first playoff game Smith and Jones got injured. Texas was not capable of winning after losing their star players dropping them in the first round. “The past is the past right now I want to lead Reebok to a championship,” Smith said. Smith feels he is a big asset to the Reebok franchise, his willingness to throw his body around and hustle make him a player everyone wants. Unfortunately, for him he went later in the draft then he thought he would have; he hoped that And 1 would call his number through the first three picks they had. But, he never got the call and Reebok saw the talent in the young guard and took advantage of the disregard by the other teams. “I can see myself taking this team far and I hope to come to a level like Bonafide or Speedy who have shown they have the powers to be true players on the court now and always.” Smith said. Smith will have to practice hard to get to the level of Bonafide or Speedy; all we can do is wait and see what comes out of the young college star.
