THE BALLERS | James King AKA "Ketchup" When James King, AKA “Ketchup”, attacks the basket, he only knows one way to go about his business. “When I get in the lane, I’m just going up to that rim,” the 18-year-old says. “And I don’t know when I’m coming back down.” King isn’t playing either. The 6-1 Butler, PA., native and his 47” vertical have been known to unleash dunk after dunk at playgrounds all across the country. “I had to learn how to go up and over people at an early age,” Ketchup says. “My game comes from way back in the day. My older sister played college ball and she was a lot taller than me, so when we’d play she’d block my shot all the time. After a while, I decided that the best way for me to score was to get to the rim. I needed to start jumping over people.” As his game developed, Ketchup starred at Pacific H.S. and then went on to play at Cabrillo Junior College (Santa Cruz, Calif.) . After graduating in 2005, King toured with YPA (Young Players Association) and the Harlem Globetrotters. This winter, he says it will be more of the same. “You can always find me at the inside playingrounds this winter,” he says. “I’ll be getting ready for the upcoming new season with Team Jordan in the PHL, but I’ll be spending most of my time in the parks. From Laguna Beach all the way north to Mosswood in Oakland. I’ll be there.”
